چکیده

Idea generation software can be useful in electronic brainstorming and creativity tasks. These tools facilitate the generation of a large number of ideas which may result in information overload. Number of ideas, idea diversity, and flow of ideas in an electronic brainstorming session constitute input complexity which results in mental workload and eventually affects group performance. In this research, we develop a theoretical framework linking input information complexity to performance of a group engaged in creativity task using idea generation tools. Mental workload serves as a mediating variable in this model. We consider idea quality, perception of work completed, and overall satisfaction as indicators of group performance. While the theoretical model needs empirical validation, it can provide useful insights to practitioners making plans for electronic brainstorming sessions.
